Various architects and designers were asked to design a doghouse for the desert environment. Organized as a fundraiser for Gilda’s Club of the Desert, the doghouses were auctioned with proceeds benefiting cancer survivors. The JGA response referenced the midcentury architecture of Palm Springs by combining the concept of floating planes with a traditional lath house. Constructed entirely of 2x2 redwood strips, the structure provides shade from the sun while allowing cooling breezes to flow through. A “porch” creates a space for the dog to survey his domain. The doghouse was featured on Dwell Magazine’s website.
