For the first in a new line of retail stores for the luxury sportswear brand Bobby Jones, JGA was inspired by the history of Bobby Jones, one of the greatest golfers of the 20th century. The only amateur golfer to ever win all four major championships in the same year, his legacy as a gentleman and sportsman endures today. With its roots in tradition, updated for modern living, the Bobby Jones men’s and women’s clothing lines are a reflection of his classic style. The design concept of the store is based on this modern vision of traditional style.
The Atlanta store, at Lenox Square, is a corner location, affording extensive glazing on both the front and side. An architectural language based on antebellum houses was chosen as a reflection of Bobby Jones’ southern heritage. The exterior of the store is detailed as a porch, with white columns and classic dark green shutters as infill, providing glimpses into the space as well as framing display windows.
The interior of the store is divided into three distinct spaces, each of which defines a unique sales area. Architectural detailing is used to delineate and differentiate each space. The entry is for display of casual apparel. It is treated as the ‘porch’ of an antebellum house, with dark green shutters, classic white columns, clapboard siding and brick floors. The next area displays Bobby Jones Men’s apparel, continuing the theme of white columns with the addition of dark wood cabinetry for a masculine feel. The innermost space, Bobby Jones Women’s apparel, is more refined and elegant, with crisp white paneling and cabinetry. Custom fixtures in dark wood tones and bronze detailing contribute to the atmosphere, reinforcing the Bobby Jones brand of quiet, relaxed luxury.
