Bobby Jones Hawaii
Honolulu, Hawaii 2005

For a Bobby Jones store at the Ala Moana shopping center in Honolulu, the architectural language developed for earlier stores served as the basis for the design. Bobby Jones, one of the greatest golfers of the 20th century, was the only amateur golfer to ever win all four major championships in the same year, and his legacy as a gentleman and sportsman endures today. With its roots in tradition, updated for modern living, the Bobby Jones men’s and women’s clothing lines are a reflection of his classic style.

The exterior is mainly glass, framed by white columns and signature dark green shutters. The narrow space is given character and spatial interest by dividing the store into three distinct spaces, each of which defines a unique sales area. Architectural detailing is used to delineate and differentiate each space. The entry is for display of casual apparel. It is treated as the ‘porch’ of an antebellum house, with classic white columns, clapboard siding and brick floors. The next area displays the Men’s collection, continuing the use of white columns with the addition of dark wood cabinetry for a masculine feel. The innermost space, the Women’s collection, is more refined and elegant, with crisp white paneling and cabinetry. Custom fixtures in dark wood tones and bronze detailing contribute to the atmosphere, reinforcing the modern vision of traditional style.
